Writing Workshop with Lambda Literary Awarded author David Pratt

Description:

The writing workshop, at 1:30 pm, will be limited so to register call 481-0783 or email the NIDL at thelibrary@nidl.info to reserve a seat. Participants will do free or structured writing based around some very open and flexible prompts. We will also discuss where writing ideas can come from and how they can be shaped and reshaped. Finally, we will brainstorm about creative, outside-of-the-box ways to get your work to an audience. Bring your favorite writing materials or devices to be comfortable.

The Author Visit, at 7:30 pm, will include a reading by the David Pratt from his new novel “Wallaconia” (woll-uh-SO-nee-uh) and copies will be available for purchase and signing. Join us for a pleasant evening with books, nibbles and author David Pratt.

This event will be held on the IPFW campus in the Helmke Library’s 1st floor reading area and close parking is at either parking garages 1 or 2 on the IPFW Campus.

At this event, you’ll learn about owls, bats, raccoons, snakes and other creatures of the night. Children are encouraged to attend in costume and enjoy treats at various stops along the way. Bats of Northern Indiana with Jeremy Sheets

Join biologist Jeremy Sheets for a discussion of bat biology and ecology, focusing on the species and populations in northern Indiana. Emerging trends, diseases, and other topics related to the study of bats will be discussed. We’ll attempt to discover bat populations at The Center of Donaldson as we’ll be on the lookout for bats emerging from the eaves of the Ancilla Domini Motherhouse at sunset. End the evening back at MoonTree for coffee, cocoa and conversation. You may win the door prize--a bat house, to invite bats to live in your neighborhood! Wear sturdy shoes or boots for walking; we’ll have some golf carts available for those that can’t walk between MoonTree Studios and the Motherhouse. On October 15, 2017 from 4:00p-6:00p join us at Wunderkammer Company (3402 Fairfield Ave) for our Oragami/Kirigami Workshop! Wunderkammer Company offers monthly workshops which are open to the public. This year's series continues with Origami/Kirigami hosted by local artist, Mike Schmid. Origami is the the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures and Kirigami is similar but includes cutting the paper. This artform is both fun and thereputic. It is said to help develop hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and mental concentration! Please come out and make these workshops as successful as last time! Bring your friends! Each Workshop is $5, which includes all materials needed. Please respect our "no one under 13" policy.

An experience to introduce or refine basic book-binding skills. Make a one-of-a-kind book to record your thoughts, ideas, lists, or wishes for safe-keeping. Basic bookmaking techniques will be used to design a cover, choose the number of pages, types of paper, and specialty components to include; then bind them with a unique fastener. Pine-Needle Basketry with Jo Hoffacker

In the morning you’ll be confronted by a pile of long pine needles and sinew. With Jo’s guidance, you’ll experience the coil basket weaving technique, growing the basket up from the base and stitching the pine needle coils together evenly. Jo will offer suggestions about choosing and caring for natural basket-making materials, along the way.
