September 28--Conservation Today Review--1802 Chapman Rd, Huntertown, IN 46748--6-8 pm

What would change if we understood natural lands as more important to us than electricity and cell phones, as crucial to us as clean water and air? Jim Barrett III, a founding member of ACRES, wrote a paper for a 1964 Quest Club presentation. The paper, “Conservation Today,” provides a thoughtful and compelling case for land conservation that is very relevant today.  Barrett urges us to “temper our power with our respect for the life we do not understand and did not create, but with which we share this earth...that on its health rests our own.

Our own numbers and power...demand we expand our ethical conscience to include the land and the life it supports.” Learn more and download the paper at acreslandtrust.org/conservationtoday, read it, then join the discussion!  Hosted by Jason Kissel.

Share the Trails- Tom & Jane Dustin Nature Preserve

Ends:
Location: Tom & Jane Dustin Nature Preserve
Address:
1802 Chapman Road,
Huntertown, IN 46748
Description:

October 7: Share the Trails- Tom & Jane Dustin Nature Preserve 1802 Chapman Road  from 10 am to noon!

The ACRES office is located in this preserve. Built of cedar and stone on a bluff high over Cedar Creek, the office was originally the home of Tom and Jane Dustin, founding members of the organization.  Trails wind through meadows and woodlands, one leading to a wetland filled in springtime with horned bladder wort and the call of spring peepers. Another trail climbs a steep hill along the preserve’s southern boundary formed by Cedar Creek, one of only three designated Indiana Natural, Scenic and Recreational Rivers.

Share the Trails hikes are fun ways to explore the preserves socially.  Gather friends and family and join ACRES volunteers as they show off the places they love to help protect - for good.  Rather than being an interpretive or naturalist type of hike, Share the Trails events are aimed at having fun in the woods, wetlands and prairies that ACRES preserves - with other folks who value the experience.  Happy trails!
